Hi guys, my name is Amelia… and I have a story for you. Today, I’m gonna tell you about the time I got fired and had my life put at risk – just because I was pretty.
When I turned 15, things at my house got bad. For most of my childhood, it had just been my dad and I. When my stepmother got into the picture, things went from okay to absolute chaos. My stepmother had an issue with the way I looked. She was furious every time we went out in public and people told me how pretty I was. Soon, she wasn't letting me wear any of my usual clothing. She stopped giving me money entirely. I couldn’t buy makeup, shampoo, conditioner…anything! The worst part is, my dad didn’t even care. He was too obsessed with her and helplessly in love to do anything.
I needed my own money, so I went and got a job at a fast food restaurant, I thought it would help…but my life got even weirder. My boss was this old man named Bill, and he totally creeped me out. He was always putting his hand on my lower back. I’m no expert, but couldn’t he just…not do that? He started scheduling me to close up with him. It would just be him and me for hours at night. One night, I even caught him holding a pair of my SOCKS that he had pulled out of my bag! When I confronted him about it, he acted like I was being ridiculous.
My stuff started going missing all the time. My hair clips, my clothing. I had to stop bringing socks in because they’d be gone. I was sure it was Bill stealing them for something sick. When I asked him, he said he’d check the cameras and see, because someone had been breaking in at night. I wanted to roll my eyes at him. Yeah, right. I knew it was him stealing them!
As if Bill being creepy wasn’t bad enough, there was this one customer who came in and said weird stuff to me every day. He was in his late 20’s and would gawk at me the second he walked in. After he ordered, he would just sit in the corner of the restaurant and watch me. Even worse? I started noticing he was sitting in the corner, holding my hair clips and smelling them! I was so angry, I couldn’t stand it. I stormed up to him, took the clip out of his hands, and threw it in the trash. Bill wrote me up for ‘being rude to customers.’ When I tried to explain, he wouldn’t even listen to me! I couldn’t stop thinking about it.
Had it been that customer sneaking in the back room this whole time?! Was Bill actually telling the truth?
