Uses of Do | Does Part 7 – To describe making things | Doing pizza | did the car

Uses of Do | Does Part 7 – To describe making things | Doing pizza | did the car In this video we look at using the word DO to describe making things like a dish, painting, any specific job, &c.

Do not confuse this with Part 4 of this series. This video talks about creating things, while the other video talks about doing actions. Like, and “Work on the car” = “Do the car” and “Clean the car” = “Do the car”. As mentioned below , these are contextual. So you will need to know the background of the conversation first.

Instead of saying, “I’m making chicken for dinner”, you could say, “I’m doing chicken tonight”. Similarly,
• “I’m doing sociology on Sunday.”
• “I’m doing the quarterly report now. So, I’ll get back to you after that.”
• “The painters are doing the living room now. They’ll do the bedrooms next.”

This is a chunk you use to replace various verbs like cooking, painting, studying, preparing, writing, singing, repairing, emptying, you name it and you have it.

In fact, this is a very colloquial thing to say. And it is always contextual. It means, you need to know the context in which it is said.

For instance, if the conversation is about painting the house, and you missed the first bit. Then, “They’re doing the living room now” will make no sense to you!

The other uses covered in this series are:
1. As an auxiliary verb
2. To emphasise and persuade
3. To comment or give opinions
4. For certain actions like
5. To describe effects
6. To describe progress or performance
7. To talk about travel
8. To describe places visited
9. To say that somebody cheated you
10. To say that somebody was killed
11. To talk about addiction
12. To say that somebody is emulating somebody else
13. 3 specific chunks – usages with specific purpose
