Pictures show steel beam flew off a truck through the windshield A driver from Michigan is lucky to be alive after a steel beam crashed through his front windshield and almost saw him impaled.  Johnnie Lowe, 49, from Lansing was driving a 26-foot box truck along I-96 when the enormous metal object flew off from the vehicle in front and would have certainly hit him as well, were in not for the steering wheel which stopped the projectile in its tracks.Pictures show just how close to death Lowe came as the metallic missile came to a stop just inches from his chest. +4 img id="i-a4e1e89fddeea8f3" src=" height="685" width="634" alt="" class="blkBorder img-share" / Copy link to paste in your message +4 img id="i-436ae944ab2f42b3" src=" height="837" width="634" alt="" class="blkBorder img-share" / Copy link to paste in your message The beam flew off the flatbed after it suddenly switched lanes.   img id="i-9f6288091404ef36" src=" height="292" width="306" alt="" class="blkBorder img-share" / Copy link to paste in your message 'I saw something fly off of his truck -- and I thought it was a plank off a privacy fence, like a piece of wood ... and then I saw it was a big piece of steel,' Lowe told CNN.'I thought it was just going to hit the front of the truck,' Lowe said. 'But it climbed up the grille, rolled up the hood and shot through the windshield.''Then here it came,' he said. 'It bounced my way, so I just put my arm up, put my hand on the back of the steering wheel, put my foot on the brake, eased the brake.''When it bounced off the concrete … I knew this was going down,' he said. 'I just braced myself.' 'My life flashed before my eyes,' he said. Lowe, who is a dad-of-three, said that he braced for the impact just as the beam smashed through the windshield showering him with glass.Incredibly, the steering wheel was the only thing that stopped the beam from going any further.  Share this article Share 46 shares +4 img id="i-98a5e29f72b66a3a" src=" height="847" width="634" alt="" class="blkBorder img-share" / Copy link to paste in your message 'I could feel my face was bleeding. ...Thank God, I had one little cut on my face, but I'm staring at a steel beam about half a foot from my chest.''I'm looking at my windshield with a big slice right in front of me with a big 6-foot piece of steel sticking out of it,' Lowe said. . 'I couldn't believe it. I couldn't believe I was alive. 'God blessed me that day.' +4 img id="i-6da5e3440e834489" src=" height="664" width="634" alt="" class="blkBor
