Coronavirus outbreak: Japan PM asks public for help in fighting virus, says Olympics will go ahead Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe called on the public on Saturday to co-operate in a “tough battle” with the COVID-19 virus as they seek to contain the illness in coming weeks with the Olympic Games just months away.

Abe said the government must work with medical institutions, families, firms, local offices and every citizen to fight the virus.

He also said the Olympics would still go ahead and officials would “fully prepare” to make it safe and secure for athletes and audiences.
