What this piece/choreography means to me :
Bullying is a really big problem in today’s generation and society. I find it really sad to hear about people getting bullied on a daily basis, as it can have such a big effect and impact on someone’s life. In this dance I didn’t really want to focus on technique, I wanted to focus more about the story telling and expressing emotions. Bullying can effect people physically and emotionally, so the repetitive movements in this dance shows and represents that the victims are fighting to get out of this dark place, and trying to have a voice but realising they can’t. This dance also has a large variety of levels of movements and this shows that the victim is struggling and feeling like they have no access to any help.
Why I’m spreading awareness about different themes/topics :
Most people have a problem that they want to spread awareness about but they feel like they don’t have a voice. With that being said dance is a great way to express emotions, tell a story, and spread awareness about certain things. Dance can also be a healing power to overcome traumatic experiences. In dance people are allowed to express themselves and let out all their emotions in a safe and positive environment. By spreading awareness about different topics this will help people gain a better understanding of it and maybe even inspire them to help in different ways. This will also help people who are struggling or experiencing the certain topic. This can also bring communities together as people may be able to connect and relate to each other and their stories/experiences.
