Blood thefts in hospitals are threatening to derail Uganda Blood transfusion services’s aim of collecting blood to address the current shortage in the country. Last year, the agency set out to collect 300,000 units of blood but it is having difficulty meeting that target. It has now been revealed that the continued theft and selling of blood has discouraged many would be donors from participating in blood donation drives.
