In US news and current events today, musician Dagmar Turner played the violin during her own brain surgery. Turner underwent brain surgery in London, England to remove a brain tumor on January 31. She was diagnosed with the brain tumor in 2013 after suffering a seizure during a symphony.
Dagma Turner plays in the Isle of Wight Symphony Orchestra and several choral groups. The tumor grew in the right frontal lobe of her brain, close to the area that controls the fine movement of her left hand. Turner didn't want to lose the ability to play the violin, so her neurosurgeon suggested that she play the instrument during her brain operation to ensure proper brain function.
Turner played many classical tunes such as George Gershwin's 'Summertime' and works by Gustav Mahler and Julio Iglesias. The surgeons called the procedure a 'success.'
